Retroarch switch discs1/8/2024 ![]() ![]() Tecmo released a Monster Rancher 2 Switch port, and I’ve been playing a bit of OG Monster Rancher 2 with the Hard Mode patch, which attempts to balance the monsters out and updates techs a bit since some monsters just have shitty tech trees, so I figured I’d make a thread. This only works if you use m3u for the multi disc stuff. It will all come up on screen as you do it. Then hit eject toggle again to close the tray. Then in game hit the eject toggle button you assigned. Go into inputs-hotkeys-set a button for eject toggle-set a button for next disc-previous disc. Then quick menu-disc control-eject-toggle the index-insert disc. Results in a full set with no dupes.Įdit: ps you dont need any special parameters to run games from an m3u. I created it from all the various rom packs. That combined with This gives you a complete set as per Dons Hyperspin Tools. Or config a switch disk button on your controller. Then switch disks/tapes as needed in the menu. If not, In retroarch just select the M3U instead of the disk/tape image. If you have Launchbox just search the folder for m3u's and add them all as the roms. Heres my Multi Disk/Multi Tape M3U Set which i put together from Gamebase a few years ago. It still doesn't feel like fire-proof method, but odd and unreliable. Still I would be happy if someone could explain to me this strange behaviour and why the obvious method that is working in standalone VICE doesn't work in RetroArch. What never worked for me was the obvious quick method of "Quick Menu / Disc Control / Load New Disc / Back to emulation". It should also be noted that "True Drive Emulation" is seemingly needed in most cases. More testing is needed here and quite frankly I have no idea what I'm doing exactly. I'm still not sure if you can do all these steps in one process or if you should return to emulation and wait a few seconds between the respective steps. I should add that this method doesn't seem to function all the time, no idea why, but at least it's working somehow. return to emulation, your "Disk 2" should now be mounted in your virtual 1541 and ready. open "Current Disc Index", then again pick the correct Disk, like "Example Game (Disk 2)",ħ. choose "Load New Disc", then pick the correct Disk from your Game List, like "Example Game (Disk 2)",ĥ. open the RetroArch Quick Menu (R3+元 by default),Ĥ. When a C64 game demands a disk swap, you have to:ġ. m3u nonsense, I'll try to give you a step by step solution in hopes this works for all of you. Since my web research showed that I'm not alone with this problem and there are people out there claiming that disk swapping in RetroArch VICE is ONLY possible via that. It's a bit of a joke in terms of usability, but anyway, it works. So, why doesn't it work with RetroArch on the deck?Ī miracle has happened and I found out how to solve my problem. But I just downloaded VICE 3.7 on my desktop and found that disk swapping works with "attach disk" from the menu. ![]() I'm really desperate to get this working.ĮDIT: I always used CCS64 in the past and have no experience with VICE. So, if any of you have experience with Steam Deck and/or RetroArch and/or VICE 3.7, please drop a line. d64 files into another format like crt or. Or, as a last option, there is a way to stuff multiple. Either, with your help, I get VICE working after all without too much hassle and command line parameters and playlist files and all that insane bs, or I have to set up another emulator that can swap disks (like CCS64) and is working on Steam Deck somehow. I just don't want to believe that this is so complicated, when CCS64 did manage to swap disks with two mouse-clicks and without any fuss years ago. I found that VICE needs to be started with some special parameters to get the playlists to work and this is where I gave up. I already did some research and found that VICE seems to need some kind of playlist file (m3u or vfl, not sure, tried both), but that didn't work either. There is a swap disk option in the RetroArch menu but it has no effect or crashes the emulation. Which means, games that come on two or more disks don't work, because emulation stops/fails/crashes when I try to swap disks. Until now I did not use anything different than the standard RetroArch (both with and without EmulationStation) and while the VICE 3.7 core works brilliant with most single disk / prg / t64 / crt games, it seems to fail at multiple disk handling. Controllers are brilliant and you can configure them with some fiddling to your heart's content.īut alas, I just fail miserably in setting up a working C64 emulation. For example, Nintendo console emulation just works like a charm. It's been said it's perfect for emulation and I would tend to agree. Just got me a Steam Deck and it's a great little device. ![]()
